Blue Ridge Parkway - 2005

In May 2005 we drove the length of the 469 mile Blue Ridge Parkway beginning with the Skyline Drive at Front Royal, VA.  Skyline Caverns at Front Royal have antodites (cave flowers) that are found in few caves around the world.

We toured Monticello then started down the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. We camped at The Peaks of Otter area. There also is a nice lodge and hiking trails there. One interesting stop was Mabry Mill where there was a local celebration going on; looked like fun! Our next stop was the Biltmore Estate at Asheville, North Carolina. An overwhelming display of wealth that most of us cannot even imagine! We continued on to Richland Balsam, the highest point on the parkway. It was a bit of a hike to it, but worth it. It is at mile 431 of the 469 parkway miles.
