After our week in Bridge of Allan we drove to Inverness to our Untours apartment where we would be for the following week. Downtown Inverness is compact and is a great location to base from for day trips. Our apartment was in the heart of the business area of the city.
Our Untours highlands orientation included a guided tour of the Inverness Cathedral. It was interesting to note the American flag flying inside the cathedral! The first American Episcopal bishop was consecrated here in 1784. The American flag is flown to commemorate that.
The Culloden Battlefield is nearby. The battle of Culloden marked the near destruction of the Scottish highland clans by the British army in 1746. The visitors center does an outstanding job of explaining the issues surrounding the conflict and subsequent actions taken by the British. Photos are not allowed in the visitors center so we only have a few of the battlefield area.
The Highland Folk Museum was a typical outdoor folk museum. We learned that this was another place that had been used for some Outlander scenes.
We have seen sheep dog demonstration before but the one at the Leault farm was outstanding. The skill of those dogs in managing a herd of sheep was remarkable.
Our longest drive from Inverness was north to the small town of Ullapool. Nothing special about Ullapool, just a scenic drive up and back.
