We left Salisbury for our journey through the Dartmoor National Park to our evening destination in the village of Chagford. Part of this travel was via an old steam train from Swanage to Corfe where we visited the Corfe Castle. The contrast of the quaint village with the castle ruins above was interesting.
After a quick stop at the medieval clapper bridge at Postbridge we were on to the stone circle and row at Merrivale. Then a highlight of the day was a picnic lunch at Sharp Tor in the park. The uphill climb was strenuous but the views were well worth it!
An evening stroll in Chagford led through a sheep pasture, Barb and I stopped to enjoy the tranquility. A few sheep in the pasture found us to be curious visitors!
From Chagford we continued our journey to St. Ives for our destination for the next few nights. We made a short visit to Port Isaac (Port Wenn for Doc Martin fans).
Much of our afternoon was wandering the Lanhydrock estate. The current home was built after a fire in 1881 destroyed the original. The owner had ten children so they needed a large home!
