We took the local bus to two other towns on the coast, Positano and Ravello.
Most of the buildings in Positano are much newer than some other coastal towns. In 1953, American writer John Steinbeck’s essay on the town popularized Positano among tourists. Today its attraction holds, especially for fashion shopping. Reportedly 90 percent of its shops are women’s clothing boutiques! As can be seen in the photos, this town is very steep! We only walked, downhill, to the beach area where we had lunch. The walk back uphill to the bus stop used many of the calories we had taken in at lunch!
Ravello was a 30 minute bus ride on the very winding coastal highway to its perch 1000 feet above sea level. It was one of those small, quiet, places one could easily envision spending many hours just contemplating. From Ravello’s perch several other coastal towns are in sight.
