Our direct train ride from Rome brought us to Venice. This unique city proved to be Maggie’s and Natalie's favorite stop for the trip. In spite of the tangle of streets, alleys and canals, Maggie’s built in GPS kept all of us from getting lost with only minor backtracking a few times.
The girls learned that once away from the cruise ship hoards that tend to track between St. Mark’s and the Rialto Bridge, Venice is a charming place. Our apartment was only a few blocks from the Rialto bridge but by the time we got there, the tourist traffic was down to a pleasant level. Our apartment was spacious and was a welcome retreat in the evenings. The fruit at the Rialto market that we passed on the way home proved to be too tempting! Barb’s limited Italian did help get some delicious peaches.
