Russ & Barb’s Travels

Bulgaria - Vidin

This day we arrived in Vidin, Bulgaria’s main port on the Danube. With a small population, It is one of the least developed of the post Communist cities. An attraction there is Baba Vida, a small medieval fortress. This was once the city’s main defense in the Middle Ages. A unique building in Vidin is the Osman Mosque. It is the only mosque in the world with a spades, or "inverted heart" instead of a crescent at the top of its tower.

A treat here was a concert by members of the Vidin Symphonic Orchestra. This orchestra is one that is supported by the Grand Circle Foundation. The Vidin Orchestra was officially registered as a state organization in 1949.
