Three other places we visited were St. Goarhausen, Koblenz and Cochem.

We went on one of the KD boats that take tourists up and down the Rhine to St. Goarhasen. This small town is accross the river from St. Goar. This is a very small town and not particularly picturesque. From here we took the train to Koblenz.

Koblenz is at the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel rivers. At the point where the two rivers join is Deutsches Eck (German Corner). This spot is seen as the heart of Germany by many Germans. High above the river is Ehrenbreitstein Castle, connected to Deutsches Eck by cable car. We thought the castle turned out to be more interesting from Deutsches Eck than inside. It is a large 19th century fortress.

Cochem is a popular town on the Mosel about a 30 minute train ride from Koblenz. The Mosel is a much smaller river than the Rhine. It is winding and scenic. Cochem is very touristy and was quite crowded. Some of the town architecture was interesting.
