At the end of the summer an event, “chasteilet”, is held in many Swiss towns and villages. The term  means dividing up the cheese, which really does occur in many locations. There is entertainment, food and a traditional parade of decorated cows depicting coming down from the high pastures for the winter.

Several years ago we had gone to this event at Magisalp which is about 5000 feet altitude and above Meiringen. Two cable car rides sweeps one there in a short time. The weather was great, albeit a bit chilly the day this year’s chasteilet was being held at Magisalp.
