The area has many different valleys. One day our Untours hosts planned an outing to Valle Blenio which is north of Bellinzona. Unfortunately rain inhibited some of the planned hiking. The beauty of this valley was still evident.
Fusio Hike: The Lavizzara valley is one of the less visited valleys in the Ticino. We took the Post bus to the town of Mogno where there is an unusual church by the renowned Ticinese architect, Mario Botta. From Mogno we hiked about an hour to the high village of Fusio.
Verzasca: The Vezasca Valley is one of the more popular hiking valleys in Ticino. It offers great scenery along with relatively easy hiking. We took the Post bus to Sonogno, which is the end of the valley. From there a hike along several towns can be done, with stops at several points to catch the bus again. There is generally about 50-60 minutes hiking between bus stops.
Monte di Comino: This hike began by taking the Centovalli train to Verdasio. There we took a gondola to Monte Comino where we began our hike to the village of Costa; about a 3 hour hike along the slopes. It was one of the more varied and beautiful hikes we did, although the trail wasn't as well marked as some. At Costa we had a nice lunch at a local grotto before catching the gondola down to Intragna, then the Centovalli train back to Locarno.
