Petersburg was our next stop. The town boasts the largest home based halibut fleet in Alaska. It is also affectionately known as “Little Norway”.
Some of us went ashore while others chose to do a kayak excursion. In town at the Sons of Norway hall a local group of young people put on a demonstration of traditional Norwegian dances. We enjoyed the dance demonstrations as well as the treats served with coffee!
In our stroll around town we noted that the high school seniors were honored with each having a pennant hung on a street pole with their name and photo. A nice touch and feasible with small classes!
