En-route from Amman to Petra we made stops at Madaba, Mt. Nebo and Wadi Mujib. At Madaba is St. George’s Greek Orthodox church where there is a sixth century Byzantine mosaic map of the Biblical lands. This is the oldest known map of this area. Seven km west of Madaba is Mt. Nebo, known as the burial site of Moses. There are spectacular views of the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley from there. Later in the journey we reached Wadi Mujib, a dramatic deep gorge mentioned in the bible as Armon’s Valley. This vast gorge is about 3,000 feet deep.
