We spent an afternoon visiting the Dead Sea, the lowest elevation point on earth. Its shore is about 1385 feet below sea level. The sign below indicates 1280 but other sources put it at 1385. The depth is listed as 1240 feet. It is 8 times more salty than the oceans. The lake, at its widest point, is 11 miles wide and it is 42 miles long. The popular thing to do there is to float in the water, which is very easy. En-route we saw many road side Bedouin camps.
