From Alfriston we visited the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Two ships of note can be toured here. The HMS Victory, commanded by Admiral Nelson, in 1805 successfully tthwarted Napoleon. Another ship that can be toured is the HMS Warrior, the first ironclad warship. An interesting exhibit is the Mary Rose museum. The Mary Rose was sunk in 1545. Remnants have been salvaged and are on display in a special chamber.

Our home for the next two nights was Salisbury. A main attraction there is Salisbury Cathedral. We happened to be there on the day of Prince Harry’s and Meghan Markle’s  wedding. The BBC had set up a large screen in the green adjacent to Salisbury Cathedral. We joined with several hundred locals to watch the ceremony. The crowd watching was fascinating in itself!

After the wedding watching we journed to nearby Stonehenge.
