Our home for three days in Provence was Vaison la Romaine where our hotel was in the upper town. We learned that upper meant very uphill, which we walked numerous times. Vaison is also home to extensive Roman ruins from when the town had a population of 6,000 people.
We also visited the Roman theater at nearby Orange. This is one of the best preserved Roman theaters in existence and the only one in Europe with its acoustic wall still standing.
Another Provencal village visited was Séguret. One can see why this is a popular place for painting artists.
Another interesting winery visit was to Domaine de Mourchon. We were there during harvest time so could see some of the processing. Here we had another of our several great lunches!
A brief lunch stop was to the town of Aix-en-Provence. We had heard much about this town but found it a bit disappointing. Possibly more time there would have been better.
Our final destination for the tour was the coastal city of Marseille. Here we bid our new found tour friends adieu after a great tour and generous sampling of French wine and cuisine.
