Our home base in the French Alps was Chamonix. A highlight here was to take the cable car to the 12,600 foot high Aiguille du Midi. As you can see from the photos, we were fortunate to have a clear day, which isn’t always the case. Chamonix itself is a lovely town in which to stroll.

We did the easy hike to the next town along the Arve river then caught the local public bus back to Chamonix.

From Chamonix we visited the picturesque town of Annecy which was a lunch stop and a boat ride on Lake Annecy.  Annecy was a great place to spend some time on our way to Vaison La Romaine in Provence.
