in late September 2015 we were in Kenmare Ireland for two weeks at an Untours apartment. This is the very scenic southwest portion of Ireland. After our flight from Chicago to London to Cork, we met our Untours host who helped us get situated with our rental car for our 1-1/2 hour drive to Kenmare. That drive gave us a quick familiarity with driving on the left side of the road and on much narrower roads than we were used to in the USA. Little did we realize that over the next two weeks, that road would seem like a superhighway!
During the next two weeks we explored the Iveragh, Beara, Sheep’s Head and Mizen Head Peninsulas. That doesn’t appear to be far but on mountainous, narrow roads one does not travel rapidly. Our choice of time to visit meant the tourist crowds were largely gone, which made driving much less taxing.
