Amalfi was a major trading town in the 10th and 11th centuries. Today its 5000 residents appear to thrive primarily on the tourist industry. Several conversations we, primarily Rich, had with shop and restaurant people about the effects of the pandemic confirmed that tourism is in fact their primary industry.

The shops, restaurants and cathedral are the extent of attractions many tourists experience here. In addition, we found a picturesque hike near the end of the main town street. Simply exporing some of the steps and alleyways off the main street proved to be fun! We encountered a 90+ year old lady on one of those explorations with whom Rich was able to have quite a conversation.
