Paper production was an important industry in Amalfi in the middle ages. Today the 13th century paper mill has been turned into a paper museum. They do still produce paper here for souvenir products to sell in their gift shop. The rag pulp process can be tried by tourists during a tour of the museum.

The Amalfi region is known for its lemon products and the hills above Amalfi town are lined with lemon groves. One of the farms operated a tour of their farm, which we went on. The lemons grown here are not the small juice lemnons we are used to seeing in our grocery stores. They are huge! Having seen the groves street level, we also got to experience first hand just how steep those slopes are. It was difficult to imagine the women (yes, that is who traditionally did this) carrying baskets of lemons down the steep slopes during harvest.
