Russ & Barb’s Travels
Hungary
Some time of the first day of the tour is actually taken up with orientation, getting to know safety procedures on the ship, etc. Since most are getting over jet lag, a slow start is welcome!
These photos are actually just Budapest. During a walking tour we climbed high above the city where we could get a nice view. As can be seen, climbing to the view point was a bit of a workout!
We went on a walking tour to learn about Hungarian Jewish Heritage. On this tour we visited the Great Synagogue, purported to be the largest in Europe. Behind that synagogue is a memorial garden with a sculpture the “Emanual Tree”. Each leaf on the tree is engraved with the name of one of the 400,000 Hungarian jews murdered by the Nazis in WW II. We also visited the Rumbach Synagogue, which is a very modern building. It is also used for other cultural events.
