Russ & Barb’s Travels
Serbia
Belgrade
Our second stop in Serbia was Belgrade. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and the former capital of Yugoslavia, It is one of Europe’s oldest cities and the center of political and cultural life in the country. Belgrade, and the rest of Serbia are just now emerging from many years of repressive rule and is welcoming visitors..
Here we went on a walking tour to the Tito Memorial. This was erected to honor Josip Broz Tito, who held Yugoslavia together as an independent country in the turmoil that followed World War II and the subsequent Cold War. The afternoon was free to do as we wished. We strolled the city and visited Luna Park which contains an old fortress. It afforded nice views overlooking the Danube River
