Russ & Barb’s Travels
Sienna
One of the main attractions in Sienna is the 13th century cathedral. In the floor there are many inlaid marble art sections. The crowds made it very difficult to photograph many of them. The ornate ceiling is interesting and can be photographed free of tourists. The other significant feature in Sienna is the Campo where the annual Palio horse race is held. The competition is among Contrade, 17th century neighborhoods. We understand the horse that wins is what is important even if the jockey were to fall off during the race!
Our hotel location was near Monteriggioni, a fortress village dating to the 1200’s. This was a scenic village, hence the photos of it.
