This page covers from Bronnoysund to Oksfjord, which was about two days northbound. An exciting departure from the ordinary route between towns was an excursion in and out of the Trollfjord. This is a small fjord in the Lofoten Islands. This dead end fjord has an opening only 110 yards wide, is 1.9 miles long with 3600 feet high cliff walls. At the end they literally rotate the ship on it’s vertical axis! This is the segment where we crossed the Arctic circle. There was a volunteer ceremony on board but with the cool temperatures we declined. We still received a certificate stating that we had crossed. The town of Stokmarknes was the home of the man who started the Hurtigruten company and has a very modern design museum. Southbound we attended a midnight concert in Tromso at a local church. In the photo you can see how light it was when we were making our way back to the ship.
