Our flight across Argentina brought us to San Carlos de Bariloche, usually shortened to just Bariloche, on the western edge of the country. Our two days in this area were packed full. Due to heavy storms in Buenos Aires our flight was cancelled and we had to be re-booked on a flight late in the day.
While in this area we went on a chair lift up Campanario Hill for a panoramic view above the tree line, enjoyed a visit and lunch at a small family run brewery, went horseback riding and lunch at a local family ranch and enjoyed a leisurely float trip on the Limay River which culminated in a delightful lunch.
Sandwiched in with our outdoor activities we found time to listen to two educational talks on controversial topics. One dealt with history of this area since some German Nazis fled here after World War II. The other dealt with the plight of the native Mapuche people who, not unlike United States Native Americans, have a struggle for their rights under Argentine laws.
