Our route from Torres del Paine crossed back over the Andes into Argentina to El Calafate. En route our guide noticed a gaucho riding so we stopped the bus so we could engage in some conversation with him, with the help of our guide’s Spanish.
On our drive through the Patagonian steppe to El Calafate we stopped only for lunch and a few scenic spots.
On an all day trip from El Calafate we went to Los Glaceres National Park which is more than 1700 square miles and includes nearly 50 large glaciers. In the park we hiked and boated around the Perito Moreno Glacier. This glacier towers nearly 200 feet above Lake Argentino. While hiking on the walk we would frequently hear the cracking sound of the ice and occasional splash of ice birthing off. The scenery here was absolutely spectacular!
