Porto was the final stop on our Portugal tour. This was another city that we thought we would like to return to. Not unlike some other cities on the tour, everything semed to be uphill, but that doesn’t detract from the sites. Our hotel was just off the waterfront which made it within easy walking distance to many sites as well as an interesting area to spend time in.
Traditionally Porto was the center of the Port wine warehouse district. Port wine was brought here to be stored and shipped out to the rest of the world. Like other cities in Portugal, tile art work was present in and on many buildings.
A group river cruise on the Douro gave us an excellent view of the waterfront and bridges spanning the river.
A professional soccer match between the Porto team and the Scottish Rangers team was occurring while we were here. The fan rally’s were happening in Ribiera Square about a half block from our hotel. That was an interesting but rowdy gathering well into the night. We shared a lunch table with a family who had flown to Porto from Glasgow for the game!
Here we bid farewell to our fellow tour members and boarded our plane for Madrid.
