Our journey into Bosnia was laced with attempting to understand the conflict that had taken so many lives in the mid 1990’s. With the help of our tour guide and a local guide in Mostar, we could only begin to comprehend. Our local guide, having lived through the siege with a small child, gave chilling descriptions of what it was like to live under the scopes of snipers on the surrounding hills. Bosnia is a rather poor country today and has only been able to rebuild some. Evidence of war damage is still obvious. It is still a country in political gridlock. We in the US suffer from that also but nothing to the extent that they have.
