We had visited Switzerland on previous trips including two weeks in the Ticino region through Untours. This time we decided to explore the Heartland. We chose an Untours apartment in the village of Lungern (population 1,950) which is about half way between Luzern and Meiringen. Lungern was a picturesque home albeit a cardio workout each day walking up hill to the train station. Our apartment was in a private home with a very gracious and helpful landlady. Making use of our Swiss rail pass, we traveled daily throughout the Heartland and the Oberland regions. The activities suggested and planned by the Untours local folks kept us busy each day. We began wondering if two weeks was too long here and ended up wondering where the time went! You soon learn that the mountains mean getting anywhere takes time. We enjoyed grocery shopping in the local markets and being able to relax in the evenings in our own “home”. We have tried to caption the photos sufficiently to make them self explanatory.
