Our visit to Poland was limited to Krakow, which is a lovely city and we wished we had more time there. Krakow was the home of Pope John Paul II. The watchtower on the square is unique in that a bugler has played on the hour from there for the past 600 years! Actually, there are 12 buglers that work in shifts.
Wawel Hill is the location of Wawel Castle and Cathedral among other buildings. Krakow is the home of Oscar Schindler’s factory, which is now a museum, including his desk.
We visited Auschwitz-Birkenau, the location of one of the Nazi’s most notorious concentration camps. Visiting here is one of the more sobering experiences we have had. It is difficult to imagine the tragedy to humanity that this site represents.
