In the autumn there are numerous festivals in Switzerland. Most celebrate bringing the cows down from the high pastures to lower levels and selling the cheese that has been made over the summer. These typically include a parade of cows decorated with flowers and sporting loud bells.
We went to two festivals. One in Bern, the capital of Switzerland and one in Wengen, high up in the mountains. In Bern we did a walking tour of part of the city. The two festivals were quite different but both fun to mix with the local folks and enjoy the fun.
One of the more picturesque lakes we visited in Switzerland was Oeschinensee. This beautiful lake is reached via gondola from Kandersteg then a short hike.
After four previous times in Switzerland, we finally made it to see the famous Matterhorn. For the fabulous view from 10,200 ft, we took the cog train to Gornergrat from Zermatt.
Untours included one “event” during our stay. This one was a walking tour of Thun with our local Untours rep., Urs. He had a great voice and we learned that he occasionally sings professionally! The outing included lunch at a site we had seen and photographed on previous trips to the area. It was great to actually be there for lunch!
