This page has photos of our temporary home town of Meiringen and some nearby towns. The Hasliberg is a mountain where Meiringen is in the Hasli valley. Hasliberg is also the name of a community made up of four villages - Hohfluh, Wasserwendi, Goldern and Reuti. These communities share one local government. The Hasliberg is served by Postbus from the Brunig train station as well as an aerial tramway between Meiringen and Reuti. This region is noted for its picturesque and hiking trails.
The current Meiringen church, St. Michael’s, dates to 1684. An original building was constructed in 1486 and is still used. The smallest of the three bells in the bell tower was cast in 1351 and it is estimated that the largest bell was also of that era.
The town of Lungern just over the Brunig pass on the way to Luzern was our home for two weeks on our 2014 trip to this region. There is a pleasant, level 3 mile walk around the west shore of Lake Lungern to Kaiserstuhl. We did that one day. Unfortunately about half way the weather chose to change from cloudy to moderate rain. In spite of rain jackets we found that standing under a nice tree was good.
