Russ & Barb’s Travels
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is well known because of it’s hydrothermal features. Probably the most recognized one is the geyser, Old Faithful. Another notable feature is Yellowstone Lake which is the largest high elevation(> 7,000 ft) lake in North America The lake is 20 miles long and 14 miles wide! The park’s elevation at the lowest point is 5282 feet above sea level, a feature we realized when we were hiking at about 7,000 feet.
When visiting you quickly realize the popularity of Yellowstone by the very large crowd of visitors everywhere. Some areas are so popular that there is no parking available periodically throughout the day! Available Lodging inside the park can be an issue and can fill up over a year in advance, hence we chose to stay in West Yellowstone, just outside the West entrance.
