In May 2017 we were in Leiden, The Netherlands for two weeks in an apartment arranged through Untours. This trip had been on our radar for some time and an unusually good airfare came up that induced us to go at this particular time. We flew from Chicago to Amsterdam where Untours arranged a taxi to take us to Leiden, which would be our home for two weeks. A rail pass allowed us access on all trains in the area. In addition to our home base we made trips to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Delft, Haarlem, The Hague, Rotterdam and Zandvoort aam Zee. We enjoyed grocery shopping at a store a few blocks from our apartment and visiting with local residents. In all of the cities we were impressed with how many times local people stopped to ask if we needed any help when they saw us standing on the street studying a map. The Keukenhof Gardens were still open and we had ideal weather the day we were there. A fun day was the Leiden marathon. They had five different length runs from a regular marathon to a 2 KM kiddie run. All total about 10,000 runners finished including 850 in the kiddie run! We didn’t participate in the marathon but Barb’s Fitbit recorded 5-7 miles many days!
