France &  Barcelona 2013

In mid September 2013 we went with a two week Rick Steves’ tour, "Wine Regions of Eastern France”.  We flew to Paris where we stayed the weekend to get over our jet lag and seeing places since our last trip to Paris 15 years ago. While there we met friends from Seattle for dinner who were starting a Rick Steves’ Paris area tour. We traveled by train to Reims where we met our 20 other tour companions. Over the next two weeks we enjoyed the many sites of Eastern France, including sampling  many of the wines produced in the regions, and learning about regional cuisine. At the end of our tour in Marseille, we remained in the Provence area a week. We traveled by train to Avignon where we picked up a rental car. We had reserved several days at a great B&B just south of Rousillon, which was our base to tour the hill towns of the Luberon region.  We returned our car to Avignon and took the train to Montpellier to get an early morning train to Barcelona. After four full days of taking in the sites in Barcelona, we flew home in mid October via New York. The map above depicts the route followed.
