Russ & Barb’s Travels

In October 2025 we flew to Hamburg Germany, a new city for us, to visit. In Hamburg we joined 130 other passengers for a cruise operated by Hx, the company spun off from Hurtigruten, the Norwegian company we have previously traveled with. The map above, courtesy of Hx, depicts our route. The cruise part was 11 days. We were in port most of each day except for two. We were in Hamburg a full day before the trip and in Lisbon most of a day at the end.

The cruise was typical of Hx. i.e. a science lab on board, occasional lectures (in English and German), and an emphasis on wildlife enroute. In port there were typically optional walking tours led by very good local guides. It was enjoyable to us to have conversations over a meal or drinks with fellow passengers from half a dozen countries.

The individual pages of photos are arranged in the sequence of the tour. Some of the pages may have too many photos for a single screen. If there are, navigation arrows will appear at the top of the page. Hx had a professional photographer on board. She has furnished a selection of photos, some of which are included on these pages. She is appropriately credited when any of her photos are used.

On each page of photos, if you click your mouse cursor on a photo, a larger image will be displayed. You can then sequence through the photos using the navigation arrows on each side of your screen. Also a small circle icon at the top right of that window will start and stop a slideshow of the photos. The “X” at the top right of that screen will exit back to the original window. The slideshow timing is set for 5 seconds for each photo.
