Russ & Barb’s Travels

In March and April 2026 we went on the HX Hurtigruten Expediton cruise, "Chilean Fjords - Discovering the Heart of Patagonia". Hx is the company spun off from the Norwegian company, Hurtigruten. We have previously traveled with them both as Hurtigruten and HX and were happy with those trips. We had traveled to Patagonia in 2018 on a land tour but only touched the coastal area.
We flew to Buenos Aires Argentina via Miami to join the tour. After two nights in Buenos Aires we flew to Ushuaia to board our ship. There were about 320 other passengers for this cruise. The maps, courtesy of Hx, depict our route. The map on the right is the “big” picture. The map on the left shows more detail of the exact travel among the fjords. The cruise part was 15 days. We were in Buenos Aires a full day before the tour..
The cruise was typical of Hx. i.e. a science lab on board, lectures, almost daily (in English and German), with an emphasis on wildlife and local culture enroute. It was enjoyable to have conversations with fellow passengers and crew. We had passengers from 20 countries and crew from 24 countries, based on everyone’s passports.
The individual pages of photos are arranged in the sequence of the trip. Some of the pages may have too many photos for a single screen. If there are, navigation arrows will appear at the top of the page. Hx had a professional photographer on board. He furnished a selection of photos, some of which are included on these pages. He is appropriately credited when any of his photos are used.
On each page of photos, if you click your mouse cursor on a photo, a larger image will be displayed. You can then sequence through the photos using the navigation arrows on each side of your screen. Also a small circle icon at the top right of that window will start and stop a slideshow of the photos. The “X” at the top right of that screen will exit back to the original window. The slideshow timing is set for 5 seconds for each photo.
